Paramount has unveiled a new logo animation and brand new fanfare for the studio's 100th anniversary. The logo was first attached to Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. In 2013 the wording "100th Anniversary" will be removed.

2011 Domestic Box Office Report

With the dropping of the ball and the changing of the year once again, we take a look at the domestic box office grosses of Paramount Pictures releases for 2011.

Paramount took the number two spot with the third installment of the Transformers franchise while Marvel blockbusters Thor and Captain America were next in line. Dreamworks Animations films were next on the list with both Po and Puss taking the fourth and fifth spots in Paramount's list.

Worldwide grosses saw Transformers also come in second place behind the final Harry Potter film. Dark of the Moon took in $1.12 billion at the worldwide box office. Kung Fu Panda 2 was the fourth highest grossing film of 2011 globally, generating $665.7 million in revenue.

Some things to look at are the performance of one of the recent releases. With The Adventures of Tintin only a few short weeks out of the gate its rank in the domestic tally is on the low side. When the rest of the world is taken into account, you can see a whole other positive life.

With having visited the official teaser website for Paramount Pictures' Transformers: Dark of the Moon yesterday, I've come across a few teaser posters for the film. As per the previous films there is an Autobots and a Decepticons poster, as well as a third menacing poster.

Rumour has it that the robot featured in the third poster is Shockwave. We'll have to wait until later today when the trailer premieres to hopefully find out more. Enjoy.

Little Fockers is Paramount? Really?? When did that happen?

Little Fockers is the third movie in a series, following Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers. The first two movies were co-produced by Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures. Since DreamWorks has been bought and absorbed into Paramount Pictures, this is how the film is a Paramount Picture. I was completely caught off guard until I saw the logo in a tv spot.

As in previous films the domestic distribution is being handled by Universal while international distribution is being done by Paramount Pictures.

According to Bloody Disgusting, a third installment of Paranormal Activity will hit movie screens just in time for Hallowe'en of next year. The website cites producer Oren Peli (also director of the first film) for the scoop.

The horror pic is slated for release October 21, 2011. The second film, which was released a few short weeks ago, has already grossed $156 million worldwide with the original film earning $193 million when it was released in 2009. Not bad for films with a combined budget of just over $3 million.

With the year coming to a close I thought I'd take a look at the box office tallies of Paramount Pictures Films so far. Just two movies remain to be released from the studio, True Grit and The Fighter. Both films will be released in December.

The top domestic grossing film of the year is Iron Man 2, having earned $312.1 million this year. The second and third highest grossing films for Paramount Pictures were animated movies from DreamWorks Animation in Shrek 4 and How to Train Your Dragon. Rounding out the bottom of the list are the releases from Paramount Vantage, most of which saw very limited releases. Case 39 had the largest release of the two with 2,211 theatres. Documentary Waiting for Superman's widest release was only 330 theatres. Landing at the bottom of the list with less than $1 million is Middle Men. The movie had a modorate campaign but was only in theatres for three weeks and only at 252 theatres.

Paramount Pictures released the second poster for upcoming movie True Grit.

The poster features much of the same design of the previous poster, with the background showing a landscape instead of the parchment of a wanted poster. Otherwise the poster still has the smart and simplistic look of an old west wanted poster.

Paramount Vantage - Case 39 Finally Gets an Ad"Vantage"

Case 39 will finally see a theatrical release this October.

While the film has been in the can for nearly two years it will finally see the light of day this fall. Case 39 stars Renee Zzellweger as a case worker who adopts a troubled young girl from her parents when they try to kill the girl. But there is more to the story of this girl than she originally thinks as all hell breaks loose.

The movie will be released on October 1st by Paramount Vantage. Take a look at the revamped trailer below:

Paramount Pictures - Dinner for Schmucks Opening Box Office

Dinner for Schmucks from Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks walked away this past weekend with the number two spot at the box office.

The film took in an estimated $23.5 million over the weekend, just behind Inception which held onto the top spot for the third weekend in a row.

The Last Airbender, now in its fifth week of release, has earned $127.3 million domestically so far. Worldwide the film earned $166.8 million. Iron Man 2 has earned $311.4 million domestically and with it's worldwide haul totalling $616.5 million.

The poster for Jackass 3D has been revealed, which is pretty much the image that I posted earlier. Notice that the poster does not have the title of the movie, though it's pretty obvious for fans of the previous movie.

The familiar logo is the centrepiece of the poster with familiar 3D glasses. Short and simple with the release date

It remains to be seen if a 3D itiration of the Jackass movies is needed, or if I really want to see those antics in the third dimension, but who knows.

Paramount Pictures has launched the new site for Jackass 3D, though the site is only in tease mode right now.

The site features little more than a splash of the logo with the usual warning not to 'try this at home' and a link to the movie's Facebook and Twitter pages. Interestingly the Facebook page for the movie features a variation of the logo with the skull and 'cross bone crutches' wearing 3D glasses. Quite a cute touch.

The film will launch off screens everywhere October 15th.

Paramount Pictures continues to generate top revenue at the box office.

The studio passed a milestone recently being the first studio of 2010 to earn more than $1 billion at the domestic box office for the third year in a row. While not every movie has become a runaway hit the few 'tentpole' releases by the stuido have more than made the numbers.

Take a look at the totals for 2010 thus far, up until end of day July 8th, 2010. The titles are ranked in order of worldwide gross.

Paramount Pictures - Morning Glory Trailer

A few weeks ago Paramount Pictures released the trailer for Morning Glory, a comedy about a morning news program, on Apple Movies. The release of the trailer was both posted by Paramount on their Facebook page and Twitter account. Then, the next day, the trailer quietly disappeared.

Oh the file was still there as I was able to still directly access it from my browser's history, but the page on Apple.com was gone, replaced with a 'page not found' page. The official page for the movie on Facebook was stripped of images and left barren except for the sole post with the link to Apple.

A few days later the trailer reappeared with a new logo but essentially unchanged. Take a look at the trailer for the movie below. It will be released in theatres in November 12th.

Paramount Pictures - Rango Teaser

While not set to release until early next year, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies have released a teaser trailer for upcoming animated tale Rango.

Now when I say that it is a teaser trailer I mean just that. The trailer doesn't mention any of the voices starring in the movie, the plot of the movie, visuals of the characters or even the title of the movie! The only thing that the teaser trailer shows is the official website for the movie.

To add even more mystery to the movie, the website is a virtual duplicate of the trailer with the same dusty country road with animate tumbleweed and the occasional car driving by. How very mysterious.

So let's get to the trailer itself. The teaser shows the aforementioned country road, a road in the middle of the desert. There is not a soul to be seen when, mysteriously, an orange 'wind-up' fish floats by the scene. That's it; that's the whole trailer. At the end the website address is shown with no other details.

Paramount Pictures - First Images of Captain America

Aint it Cool News has the first images of the costume of Captain America in the upcoming film of the same name.

The film is set to be released in theatres in July 2011, after next summer's Thor and before The Avengers arrives in 2012. Chris Evans will star in the film as the title character. Take a look at an image of the superhero from AICN. The rest of the images can be found at their website.

Paramount Pictures - Grease Sing-A-Long Trailer

Paramount Pictures, along with Insurge Pictures, have presented the trailer for upcoming revival Grease: Sing-A-Long.

Of course the film came out years ago and recently celebrated an anniversary, but the movie has been touched up and given the VH1 treatment. The movie is going to feature animated popups showing the lyrics to the musical songs throughout.

Interestingly the trailer to the film tags the film as the original high school musical, which while being accurate, leads the viewer to believe that the advertised film is the one from Disney.

On another note the film is going the underground route that Paranormal Activity followed last year. The movie is being opened for a limited two week run in only a few cities. If you want the film in your town you can 'demand it.' It remains to be seen if the fever of Paranormal Activity can be duplicated, but with the fan following of the film and the novelty of having a sing-a-long you never know.

Paramount Pictures launches Insurge Pictures

Paramount Pictures has launched its micro-budget arm in Insurge Pictures.

The announcement actually happened in March, but I guess I missed it. Insurge Pictures has been started to acquire and produce films in the same price range as Paranormal Activity. Movies that the arm will be developing will cost $100,000 or less. According to Indie Film there area already as many as ten films on tap for production in the first year.

The reason that I even spotted the reference to this new start-up is that the logo has popped up in the poster and credits for the upcoming limited theatrical release Grease: Sing-a-Long. I'm not sure if the Grease musical is one of the ten films.

The official website for the studio arm currently redirects to the main Paramount website, but was online for a brief time. The website is http://www.insurgepictures.com

Paramount Pictures - Shrek Opening Weekend Box Office

Paramount Pictures' and DreamWorks Animations film Shrek Forever After lands at the top of the box office with Iron Man 2 continuing strong.

The fourth and final Shrek film opened the initial weekend at a solid $71.3 million. This number easily took the top spot at the box office. The film hasn't opened in all international territories so worldwide figures are as yet unavailable.

Iron Man 2 continued strong in its third weekend at the movies. The superhero flick took the number two spot at the domestic box office taking in another estimated $26.6 million. So far the second installment in the franchise has garnered $506.3 million worldwide.

How to Train Your Dragon, from DreamWorks Animation, took the number 9 spot, losing the bulk of its 3D screens to the newer film from DW. The animated tale took in another $1.9 million to bring the films worldwide eight week total in its seventh week $432.5 million.

I've got yet another 'foreign' film from Paramount Pictures to show you, this time from down under. Paramount Pictures Australia presents the war story Beneath Hill 60.

The film was released in Australian and UK movies this past April. Here is the synopsis of the movie from the movie's official Facebook page.

1916. Two massive armies facing each other along the Western Front have fought themselves to a standstill. The count down to the Battle of Messines Ridge has begun.

The second Spanish film from Paramount Pictures to come across my desktop today was ensemble film Tension Sexual No Resuelta. The title translates as Unresolved Sexual Tension in English.

Here is the synopsis, roughly translated into English by Google Translate:

Juanjo (Fele Martinez) is a university professor who has just been dumped by his girlfriend, Celeste (Salomé Jiménez) but it offered no explanation. Desperate, he persuades a student Juanjo pretty mug, Nico (Adam Jezierski) to help you recover. They soon discover that Celeste is under the influence of Jazz (Norma Ruiz), a successful writer, treacherous and manipulative, which is making great efforts to corrupt and suspicious. Every so often I venture across the internet and take a look at the various international arms of Paramount Pictures, looking for any local productions being distributed by the studio. Often I don't come across anything new, but sometimes I get lucky.

Tonight I took a look at Paramount Pictures Spain to see a new Spanish production entitled Habitacion En Roma (Room in Rome). The film, which was released last week, is an adaptation of the film "In the Bed," where two lovers, in this case women, share secrets during a one-night stand. The poster and trailer are below, though as a warning the trailer contains nudity.

Paramount Pictures - Likely not the 'Last' Airbender Poster

The one thing I love about upcoming 'tentpole' pictures is the standard onslaught of movie posters. Paramount usually releases a few different domestic posters, from the initial teaser poster to the final release. Then once you add in all the international arms of the studio that handful of posters can balloon up to a dozen or more.

The Last Airbender is no exception with international posters from France and Germany, just to name a few. Take a look at the newest domestic poster below. I think this is the best so far.

Once you add all of the individual character posters that are released the number of posters can reach insane numbers. Check out The Last Airbender when it hits theatres July 2nd.

Paramount Famous Picks up 'The Romantics'

Paramount Famous Productions, the direct-to-video arm of Paramount Pictures, has picked up it's first theatrical release.

Wait, did I hear that right? Theatrical? According to Screen Daily that is just what is about to happen. PFP President Louis Feola stated that the studio has been tracking several projects from independent Plum Pictures and The Romantics is a great way to start.

Seven college friends reunite six years later for a wedding of Lila (Anna Paquin) and Tom (Josh Duhamel). Things go awry when the maid of honor and the bride clash over the groom, with whom the maid of honor was once romantically involved.

This marks the return to the acquisition and distribution of independent films since the studio shuttered Paramount Classics and Paramount Vantage. That last few from the latter are trickling into theatres, mostly distributed domestically by other studios.

It's unclear if this means the company will redirect the focus of Paramount Famous from direct-to-video productions or have theatrical acquisitions compliment this focus. The most recent release from Paramount Famous Productions was Wrong Turn at Tahoe earlier in the spring. The next release is also unknown as nothing is listed at IMDB or at Paramount.com.

Paramount Pictures - May 14-16 Box Office

Paramount Pictures' Iron Man 2 continues to dominate the box office.

Iron Man 2 continued at the top of the box office in its second week of domestic release. The superhero flick earned another estimated $52 million bringing it's ten day domestic tally $211.2 million. So far the movie has earned $427.2 million.

How to Train Your Dragon, from DreamWorks Animation, took the number 5 spot in its seventh week in theatres earning another $5 million bringing the domestic number to $207.6 million with a worldwide total to $429.2 million.

Elsewhere Shutter Island is still chugging along after thirteen weeks at the box office. The movie has earned $127.2 million domestically since release. Worldwide the Scorsese / DiCaprio film has taken in $291.2 million. It arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD June 8th.

She's Out of My League has taken in $31.1 million domestically in its ten weeks at the domestic box office. Not much showing internationally with only $2 million in international ticket sales. It'll hit video shelves June 22nd.

Paramount Pictures - Iron Man 2 Opening Box Office

Paramount Pictures' Iron Man 2 sets studio records.

Iron Man 2 exploded into theatres this past weekend earning a total of $128.1 million in domestic box office. The film was Paramount's highest grossing domestic weekend opener ever and the fifth highest weekend box office ever. The movie is also the fourth highest grossing film in 2010 after only three days of release.

I think it's safe to say that we can expect an Iron Man 3 on the horizon. It just waits to be seen if that will be before or after Stark appears in The Avengers in 2012.

Worldwide the movie has grossed $332.8 million with many overseas markets seeing release one week before North America.

How to Train Your Dragon earned another $6.7 million to land at the third spot at the box office. So far the animated tale has earned $409.2 million.

Coming next to theatres from Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation is the fourth and final chapter in the Shrek saga.

Paramount Pictures - Super 8 Due Next Summer

Paramount Pictures surprised everyone today with the teaser trailer for upcoming project from J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg Super 8.

Not much is known about the film, the synopsis on Apple.com goes so far as to state that 'no synopsis was provided by the studio, but the film looks to be about aliens. The teaser shows a pickup truck venturing off road onto train tracks and colliding with a freight train. The collision causes the destruction of the pickup as well as the derailment of the train. The camera sweeps over the debris to show a freight car with the emblem of the United States Military and something trying to break out from the inside. Growls and roars can be heard as the side of the car begins to buckle.

This wouldn't be the first alien project from either director, with J.J. Abrams most recently directing Cloverfield (not to mention Star Trek) and Spielberg helming War of the Worlds.

The trailer is available on iTunes, though you can find a 'bootleg' copy of the trailer on YouTube if you don't mind the shaky camera. I thought Hutch from Cloverfield died at the end of the film. Turns out he saw Iron Man 2 last weekend and updated his YouTube account.

Paramount Vantage - Superman & Ondine Trailers

Trailers to two upcoming movies from Paramount Vantage have just been released.

The two films are Waiting for "Superman," a documentary about the American education system from the award winning director of An Inconvenient Truth. The second movie is Ondine starring Collin Farrel. The movie had it's premiere last autumn at the Toronto International Film Festival. Ondine is being distributed domestically by Magnolia Pictures on June 4th.

Paramount Pictures has released a few more trailers for upcoming movies. A new trailer or poster is almost as exciting to me as the movie making it's theatrical release, and it doesn't cost me a thing to enjoy. So I'll pass these gems on to you so you can enjoy them as well.

First up is Dinner for Schmucks, starring Paul Rudd and Steve Carel. It's an unlikely buddy comedy where Rudd's character has to bring someone to make fun of to a meeting in order to get a promotion. Enter Carel's character who fits the role perfectly. Dinner is served this July 2010. Take a look.

Paramount Pictures' Shutter Island tops the box office two weeks running.

Shutter Island scored atop the box office for the two weeks of release, dropping to number three in the film's third week being pushed out by Tim Burton film Alice in Wonderland.

The film topped the box office on Valentine's Day weekend with $41.1 million and then scored another victory in week two with $22.7 million. The third weekend the movie earned another $13.3 million bringing the movie's domestic total to $95.8 million. Worldwide so far the film as generated $130.8 million.

Up in the Air, which is nominated for best picture in tonight's Academy Awards and comes to DVD in two days, earned another $610,000 to bring the domestic gross to $83.0 million.

Elsewhere The Lovely Bones is still playing in some markets and earned another $160,000 to bring it's domestic cume to $43.8 million.

Paramount Pictures Receives 12 Academy Award Nominations

Paramount Pictures Films has received twelve Academy Award nominations, with Up in the Air, The Lovely Bones, Star Trek and Transformers receiving nods.

Up in the Air received the most nominations for Paramount with a total of six nominations. George Cluny was nominated for for actor in a leading role. Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick were both nominated for Actress in a supporting role. The film also received a nomination for writing (adapted screenplay) as well as for directing (Jason Reitman) and best picture.

Star Trek received four nominations, mostly in technical categories. The film received nods for makeup, sound editing, sound mixing and visual effects.

The Lovely Bones had one nomination in Stanley Tucci for actor in a supporting role.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen received a single nomination for sound mixing.

The awards will be presented Sunday March 7th, 2010 at 8/5p on ABC.

Paramount Pictures UK present 'not another rom com' in the upcoming comedy film My Last Five Girlfriends.

Oh how I love to find movies by the various international arms of Paramount Pictures. I'm not simply satisfied when I find out that PPUK, for example, is distributing a film that is being done domestically by another studio. That is unless the movie is co produced by Paramount. So I've found another movie on the official website for Paramount Pictures UK no less, and it looks good.

Paramount Vantage - Ondine Trailer

Paramount Vantage presents Ondine, coming to UK cinemas March 5.

The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, but has since not been released or announced until now. The movie has no release date set, but according to one website the movie will be trimmed down to a PG-13 rating and released in the US by Magnolia Pictures. No information to confirm this is listed on their website.

Paramount Pictures - The Traveler Trailer

Paramount Pictures presents Val Kilmer as The Traveler.

In another one of those finds where I have trouble finding more comes The Traveler, a thriller starring Val Kilmer. What made the search difficult is that there are actually two different films that are coming in 2010 with the same name. (Note that this film was originally known at Mr Nobody at the time of this article's original writing and has since been renamed.) One is the aforementioned thriller and the other is an English language science fiction film made in Belguim.

I have attached the trailer to the movie here from Bloody-Disgusting.com, and the film looks interesting. Val Kilmer certainly looks different than I remember him. His performance from what I can see reminds me of Paramount`s The Saint.

Here is the sysnopsis of the movie as listed by BD.

On a dark Christmas Eve in a small town, the lone Sheriffs on the night shift encounter a mysterious man who goes by the name of Mr. Nobody. As the night progresses, the Sheriffs discover that this isn't just a nobody, but a vengeful killer whose past threatens to haunt them all.

The film is listed on IMDB as simply 2010 and there is little information on the movie otherwise. Considering the genre and how full Paramount's film slate already is I would imagine the film won't see the light of cinema until later in the year. Hallowe'en would seem to be a likely release frame.

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies release full trailer for The Last Airbender.

After releasing new footage for the Superbowl commercial over the weekend the studio has released the full trailer exclusively at Yahoo! Check out the following link to see the trailer. I'll post the video here at PPF once Paramount has made it widely available.

The trailer continues to show off the movie as an epic feature and features much more new footage. Aang and Zuko don't speak in the trailer, however Sokka and Katara both do and sound great.

Paramount Pictures - Tom Cruise to star in MI:IV

According to Mike Fleming at Deadline.com Paramount Pictures has reached a deal with Tom Cruise to star in Mission Impossible IV.

Cruise will reprise his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt and be at the forefront of the plot in the fourth installment of the franchise. Originally Cruise had only been attached to the project with J.J. Abrams also attached as the producer.

Shooting is expected to start this summer with a release date for Memorial Day 2011.

Paramount Pictures - Superbowl Spots

Paramount Pictures has released two new commercials for upcoming films as well as launched full sites for them.

The Last Airbender and Shutter Island come to theatres soon and Paramount Pictures is taking full advantage of the large audience of the Super Bowl to promote both films.

he teaser trailer for The Last Airbender was released last summer, attached to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. A full theatrical trailer has let to be released but is expected to debut this month attached to Percy and the Lightning Thief. The film is set to be released July 2nd.

Shutter Island was delayed from release last October and arrives in theatres next Friday.

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies have released two more teaser posters for upcoming film The Last Airbender.

The movie, which is based on the hit animated Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, will be released in theatres this July. Though a lot of controversy arose from the casting of mostly white actors in the roles, the film continues to roll towards a release.

Paramount Vantage Acquires New Documentary for 2010

Paramount Vantage has acquired a new documentary for release in fall 2010.

Though the division has been shuttered, the label will apparently release a new documentary by Participant Media this fall in the U.S. International release dates are still to be announced. The documentary will have its world premiere January 22nd at the Sundance Film Festival.

The film, Waiting for Superman from Oscar winning directer Davis Guggenheim, examines the crisis of public education in America. More information can be found from Paramount`s official press release.

Though I'm happy to see another film on the horizon from Vantage, I'm a little confused that the film is getting the Vantage stamp with the brand being discontinued. Perhaps Paramount Vantage will still be used, but only for this kind of fare and few and far between.
